C2i SCOPE:

C2i Scope: Complete Automation of the City of Atlanta's two Water Treatment Plants, Hemphill WTP and Chattahoochee WTP, from a manually controlled system to a new Computer/PLC automated system.

C2i provided a total of fifteen (15) Redundant ControlLogix PLCs and twenty-three (23) Remote I/O Cabinets, connected via ControlNet, coax and fiber-optic cable. PLCs at both plants were connected via two (2) Redundant Self-Healing Fiber-Optic Cable Ring, a Peer-to-Peer Ring and a Peer-to-Host Ring. Allen-Bradley PanelView Plus units were placed on the Peer-to-Peer ring for redundant control in case of total Computer System failure and for local control capabilities. PLC programming was put in place to synchronize alarming functions for IFix and the PanelViews. Hardware and Software was also provided to connect the many existing Allen-Bradley PLC-5, SLC and FlexIO PLCs onto the new plant-wide network. Hardware and Software were provided to connect the existing chemical pumps via Modbus 2-wire and 4-wire.

The computer system at each plant consists of two (2) Dell Servers with GE Proficy IFix software connected for automatic fail-over and one (1) Dell Historical Server for trending and report capabilities. Each plant contains numerous Dell workstation computers serving as View/Control Nodes for the IFix software. Customized reporting was provided utilizing SyTech XLReporter software.

C2i provided a variety of new field instrumentation including flow, pressure, level, temperature and chemical analysis equipment. C2i also integrated the many existing field instruments.
